A few updates on student eligibility:
- students are only able to take 1 Youth Train in Trades Program, but could take more than one Connect or Certification Program (1 Youth Train & 1 Connect or Certification is also okay). Check Burnaby District Website to determine what category a specific program falls under. https://burnabyschools.ca/careereducation
- to be eligible for Youth Train in Trades programs, students must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident , or otherwise be considered an "ordinary resident"- Unfortunately this means no International students from this point forward
- "grade 13/year 6" students can participate in programs hosted at a Burnaby School provided they are still 18 when the program starts, and will not be over 19 at the program end.
- graduated students are not eligible to take programs hosted at Post-Secondary Institutes (anything in the Dual Credit Youth Train section of the application)
Burnaby School District’s Career Education Programs provide the opportunity for students in grades 11 & 12 to gain knowledge and skills that can lead to industry certification, apprenticeship, and the development of a portfolio. These can support application to post-secondary programs and/or employment. These programs take place at various schools within the district and a student’s schedule would be adjusted at the student’s home school accordingly.
